In the film As Good As It Gets, the writer played by Jack Nicholson
is asked how he can create such realistic female characters. He
replies that he thinks of a man and then removes all rationality and
sense of responsibility. This description also fits George Bush and
our national government. Example:
Bush and Congress decided to take advantage of the disintegration of
the former Soviet Union by adopting the former communist republics and
incorporating them into the Euro-American military and economic
systems. The Republic of Georgia elected a president who was gung-ho
on this idea. He thought that America and NATO would protect his
nation against its still-powerful former master, Russia. Given a
false sense of confidence by Bush and his men, Saakashvili decided to
attack the autonomous province of South Ossetia, which, although
nominally part of Georgia, is mainly ethnic Russian and has been on
its own since the early 1990's. He was apparently too stupid to
realize that Russia would hit back and that America and Europe could,
and would, do nothing. But there is a silver lining in all this.
Because of the destruction and suffering caused by Bush's blunders,
American taxpayers are now compelled to provide charity to yet one
more nation.
